Mundelein, Ill. -- Behind the strength of three top-five finishes, the Northern Illinois women's golf squad dominated the field and won the Loyola Invitational by 13 strokes at the Pine Meadow Golf Course (Par 72, 6,010 yards) on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Abbie Many (Mount Prospect, Ill.) placed second overall with a 156 (79-77), while teammates Lisa Bailey (Decatur, Ill.) and Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill.) each tied for third with a total of 158. Butler's Niki Garden won the tournament with a 146 (73-73), while Loyola's Lucy McGovern rounded out the top five with a fifth-place 161 (77-64).
"We played really steady golf," NIU head women's golf coach Pam Tyska said. "We didn't have any disasters, which we've been trying to get away from.
"We're building towards the best shape that we can be in with the Mid-American Conference championships coming up."
NIU finished with a 638, followed by IPFW (651), Butler (655), Loyola (665) and Cleveland State (675).
NIU's Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill.) placed 12th overall with a 166 (85-81), while teammate Anne Senn (Mount Prospect, Ill.) finished 24th with a 176.
Huskie sophomore Jackie Bobrowicz (Lemont, Ill.) topped the NIU individuals with an 18th-place finish of 172, followed by Allison Williams (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind.) who placed 20th and 21st respectively with a 173 and 174.
NIU is back in action on April 27-29th, as the Huskies will participate in the MAC Championships in Nashport, Ohio.
