April 26, 2007

DeKalb, Ill. -- Coming off an impressive team win at the Loyola Invitational last week, the NIU women's golf team looks to carry that momentum into the Mid-American Conference Championship on April 27-29th at the Longaberger Golf Club [par 72, 6,149 yards] in Nashport, Ohio.

Eastern Michigan University will host the 72-hole event in which eight teams will battle for MAC bragging rights, including Ball State, Bowling Green, EMU, Kent State, NIU, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

NIU's Lisa Bailey (Decatur, Ill.), Abbie Many (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill.) comprise the trio of Huskies that took away hardware at the Loyola Invitational and looks to lead their team to victory in the conference showdown.  Many will challenge the field for medalist honors to add to her three top-three finishes of the 2006-07 campaign, while Bailey will compete for her second tournament win of the year.

NIU head coach Pam Tyska is confident in her team's ability to deliver a crowning performance.

"The team is fully prepared physically and, as far as mental preparation, I can't think of a better confidence booster than coming off a huge tournament win at the Loyola Invitational," Tyska said.  "The MAC Championship is the time it all comes together and that illusive momentum is in our favor."

Please note that the first two rounds will be played consecutively on April 27th with the opening round starting at 7:00 a.m. (CDT) and the second round starting at 11:30 a.m.  One round will be played on each of the final two days of the tournament, with tee-times starting at 7:00 a.m.
