April

Northern Illinois Womens Golfer Jackie Bailey Named Academic All-MAC DeKalb, IL Northern Illinois Universitys Jackie Bailey was rewarded for her excellence on both the golf course and in the classroom Wednesday afternoon, when she was named to the 11-member womens golf Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad by the leagues faculty representatives. To qualify for Academic All-MAC Team consideration, a student-athlete must own a minimum grade-point-average of 3.20 and have participated in at least 50 percent of the teams contests. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year at the university are not eligible for the award. A business major with an impressive 3.66 GPA, Bailey started all-10 events for the Huskies and finished second on the squad with an 82.0 stroke average. A top-10 finisher at the Western Illinois Invitational (Sept. 20-21) and the Huskie Classic (Oct. 3-4), the Decatur, IL, native enjoyed a career year, which included top-20 showings at both the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational (March 14-15) and the Loyola Invitational (April 11-12) before capping the season with a 26th-place finish at the MAC Championships. Bailey opened competition at the conference summit with a season-low 76, to not only rank among the top 11 after 18 holes, but also lead NIU to a school-record opening-round score of 307. Led by Bailey, the Huskies went on to finish sixth as a team, the best showing for the program since 1999. Although Bailey is the first Academic All-MAC pick for the Northern Illinois womens golf team in school history, the former Warrensburg-Latham standout is a two-time National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Team honoree, after earning the awards in both 2003 and 2004. ###NIU###
