NIU's Abbie Many Named To Women's Golf Academic All-MAC Team



Junior Abbie Many was the lone Huskie on the Academic All-MAC Women's Golf Team.

Cleveland, Ohio --Northern Illinois junior Abbie Many (Mount Prospect, Ill.) has been selected by the Mid-American Conference Faculty Athletic Representatives to the Women's Golf Academic All-MAC team, as announced by the conference office.

 

"Abbie has worked really hard on her golf game and her academics," NIU head women's golf coach Pam Tyska said. "She has really improved her game and almost on the same parallel really improved her GPA.

 

"Abbie is just as gifted and hardworking on the course as she is in the classroom."

 

Joining Many on the squad is Ball State's Kallie Harrison, Eastern Michigan's Stephanie Fleet, Kent State's Kira Meixner and Maddi Swaney, Ohio's Kristen Mautz and Western Michigan's Erin Thorne.

 

The Mount Prospect, Ill., native was the lone Huskie with a sub-80 average as she posted a 79.9 in 28 rounds of action. A physical education major, Many owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.46.

 

The five-member team was voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
