NGCA HONORS CAP CAREER FOR NIU WOMEN'S GOLF'S WARRICK AND MARK FIRST HONOR FOR BAILEY
DeKALB, IL --- It's the perfect exclamation point to finish the career of one senior on Northern Illinois University's women's golf team---and the perfect way to begin a successful career for a new member of the squad. Either way being named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Golf Team is a sweet reward.

For the third consecutive year NIU's Janelle Warrick (Neenah, WI) was recognized for having above a 3.4 grade point average and competing in at least 66 percent of the Huskies events. Joining the senior is freshman Jackie Bailey (Decatur / Warrensburg-Latham), who becomes a part of the first group of athletes ever to be named to the prestigious squad after their first year of competition. The NGCA included freshmen for the first time in the awards' history.

For Warrick, the latest accolade ends her four year run at Northern Illinois. During the 2002-03 season the Wisconsin native teed it up in all nine of the Huskies' tournaments during the season en route to her fourth letterman award. Her top finish for the year came at the Western Michigan University Bronco Invitational (April13-14) where she used her second-round score of 79 to propel her to a tie for tenth place.

In addition to being noticed by the NGCA for her play during the 2002-03 campaign, Warrick was also highly decorated by NIU head coach Pam Tyska and her teammates. The Neenah, WI native was named Most Valuable Player, received the Northern Illinois Top Dog award, Captain's Award and Scholar Athlete of the Year honors for her 3.73 GPA as a Chemistry major.

Warrick is leaving some big shoes to fill but Bailey seems more than willing to try and fill the void. In addition to having a 3.79 GPA in physical education the Decatur native turned in one of the most successful seasons by any Huskie freshman. Bailey finished in a tie for 13th place in only her second collegiate tournament shooting in the low 80's in both rounds at the Bowling Green State University Lady Falcon Invitational (Sept. 21-22). She finished up her rookie year strong with an opening round of 79 and a ninth place finish at Western Michigan along with bringing home the team's Freshman of the Year award.

Bailey will look to anchor a young Huskie squad in the fall when the women's golf season begins.
