DEKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University head women's golf coach Kim Kester announced the signing of Lena Gautier for the Spring 2014 semester today.
"She's played all over," Kester said. "She came to the States and played in a few events and played all over Europe. Anytime you can get somebody of that caliber into your program is a good thing. She's going to do a lot for NIU golf.
"She can compete with everybody and we're excited to bring her on. Whenever you can get someone that's played all over the place, they have the upper hand because they've seen so much."
Gautier, a native of La Celle-Saint-Cloud, France, has played in numerous European girls amateur events, including the German Girls Open, British Girls Amateur, and Spanish Ladies Amateur. She competed in the United States at the Doral Publix Junior Girls tournament, where she notched a fifth-place finish in 2012. Gautier fired rounds of 77-69-78 at the TPC Blue Monster course, finishing nine strokes off the pace set by the world's 14th-ranked amateur, Emily Pedersen and her second-round 69 was the lowest round at the event.
A member of the French National Team, Gautier owns titles at the French National Women's Club Team Championship, France Individual Championship, and French National Girls' Team Championship. Gautier's time on the amateur circuit in Europe has led her to be ranked in the world amateur rankings.
