Two Huskies fire collegiate-best rounds, Northern Illinois in ninth at ISU Redbird Classic
September 7, 2003 TWO HUSKIES FIRE COLLEGIATE-BEST ROUNDS, NORTHERN ILLINOIS IN NINTH AT ISU REDBIRD CLASSIC NORMAL, IL --
Jackie Bailey (Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham) and Jamie Carney (Rolling
Meadows) fired the best rounds of their collegiate careers on Sunday
as the Northern Illinois womens golf team stands in ninth
place after the first day of competition at the 12-team Illinois
State Redbird Classic Sunday (Sept. 7) in Normal, IL. The Huskies
shot a two-round total of 320-326646 to find themselves in
ninth place after 36 holes of the 54-hole event. Tournament host
Illinois State (292-305597) leads the event, which will conclude
on Monday with the final-18 holes of competition teeing off at 8:30
a.m. Bailey, who
stands in a tie for 30th place individually, leads all Huskies after
her opening-round 75 eclipsed her previous best collegiate round
of 78, which she shot at the Snowbird Classic on March 13, 2003.
Last season, Bailey led the Huskies in four events and will be looking
for her third career top-20 finish on Monday. Also shooting
a career-best round was junior Jamie Carney. After shooting an opening-round
86, Carney rebounded with a career-best 75 to move up in the standings
to 39th and finish third on the team just behind Irish Whalen (Hanover/River
Ridge). Whalen shot rounds of 78-82160 to finish 34th after
two rounds of play. Jackie Heslop
(Pequot Lakes, MN) and Allison Williams (Hoffman Estates/Palatine
Fremd) rounded out the NIU scoring on the day as Heslop finished
tied for 52nd with rounds of 81-85166, while Williams finished
68th with scores of 89-87177. While she wont
count towards the team total, freshman Lisa Bailey (Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham)
began her collegiate career on Sunday playing as an individual.
Bailey, whose afternoon round was an impressive 13 shots better
than her opening-round score, shot rounds of 95-82177
to finish 69th among all individuals. Northern Illinois will conclude action at the Illinois State Redbird Classic on Monday with the final 18 holes teeing off at 8:30 a.m. - Copy by David Reiter -NIU-
