INDIANAPOLIS-Freshman Jessica Parmenter (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) posted a first round 73 to lead the Northern Illinois University women's golf team in the NIU Brickyard Invitational at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind. Monday.

"I am so pleased with the play of Jessica Parmenter, opening her collegiate career with a top 10 standing 73," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "She played very smart today and could have even gone lower if a few sinkable putts would have dropped."

Parmenter shot a 35 on the front nine, while closing out the round with a 38 on the back nine. She is tied for sixth overall with four other competitors. Senior Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) shot a 76, tying her for 19th, while Kim Hunley (Auroa, Ill./West Aurora) was right behind Many, posting a Top-25 77.

"Abbie Many's 76 was solid, and both she and sophomore Kim Hunley (77) worked hard for their standing," Tyska said. "Senior Anne Senn posted a 78 as an individual player beyond our top 5, so we were unable to count her score in team total, however, she sits among the events top 30. Scores were low today and we need to go even lower to climb up the tight leaderboard, I know we can if today's bright spots are any indication."

The Huskies are finished the first round in the eighth spot out of 11 teams, with a 309. Ball State leads the tournament with a score of 294. The NIU Brickyard Invitational concludes tomorrow.
