DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's golf team will start its season this weekend at the Ball State Cardinal Classic as the Huskies will compete against 16 teams at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
"We are looking forward to the first competition of the year at Ball State," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "Several Mid-American Conference schools will be participating, as well as solid regional competition."
The event will feature 18 holes of competition on Saturday with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start time and the same on Sunday at the par-72, 6,884-yard course. The teams participating include Ball State, Dayton, DePauw, Eastern Michigan, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Indiana State, IUPUI, McNeese State, Northwood, Ohio, Oakland, Robert Morris, Trine, Western Michigan and Xavier.
"We have had great practices and competitive qualifying for our first event," said Tyska. "Senior Kim Hunley will lead us in the number one spot. We are happy to have Jessica Parmenter back after redshirting last year due to a back problem as well as Mandi Vavrinchik, who is returning to top form after being sidelined for much of 2008-09 with a shoulder injury. Freshman Allie Parthie from Marinette, Wisconsin will make her college debut after some solid qualifying scores. The remainder of the five-player lineup is still being determined."
