DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's golf team continues its fall campaign at Ball State's Cardinal Classic on Saturday, Sept. 22 at The Players Club.

The Cardinals will host a 12-team field in Yorktown, Ind. The tournament will comprise of Dayton, IUPUI, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Valparaiso, UIC, Western Illinois and Western Michigan, in addition to the host and NIU.

NIU enters the event coming off consecutive top-five finishes. The squad placed fifth at Chicago State's Cougar Golf Classic earlier this week. Though the Huskies didn't show well at this tournament last season, hopes are high as the team enters with two players at the top of their games.

"The girls are ready to go," NIU Head Coach Kim Kester said. "They see how close they are to winning it. That's all they want to do right now - win."

Reining Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week Senior Allie Parthie (Marinette, Wis./Marinette) will return to The Players Club after tying for fifth at the event last year. She fired even-par 72 in the final round to capture her second top-10 finish is as many events to start her fall campaign.

Junior Jenny Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./East) is also making the trek to the Hoosier State with momentum. The St. Charles East product finished sixth at Harborside International this past week, her best performance as a Huskie.

"A couple of them have played Ball State before," Kester said. "They've seen that course a little bit. It's not completely new territory for them. We're all excited to get down there and see how we do against another MAC school."

The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind. plays host this week to the Midwest contingent of schools. It will play to 6,258 yards, about 300 yards longer than what the Huskies faced at Harborside International last tournament, and a par of 72. NIU will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (CT) and play 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. Results will be posted to NIUHuskies.com at the conclusion of play.
