HUSKIES FIRE BEST ROUND OF THE YEAR, FINISH SIXTH AT BOWLING GREEN'S FALCON INVITATIONAL
BOWLING GREEN, OH --- When the Northern Illinois University women's golf team entered the season, head coach Pam Tyska knew with six freshman, the fall portion of the schedule would be a learning experience. The Huskies provided to be taking their lessons in stride on Sunday (Sept. 22), firing a 326 in the final round of the Lady Falcon Invitational. Northern Illinois finished the event with a 670 (344-326), good enough for sixth-place.

For the second tournament in a row, freshman Jackie Bailey (Decatur / Warrenburg-Latham) was at the head of the class for the Huskies, firing a two-day total 161 (81-80). Showing poise in her first two tournaments, Bailey has not shot a round worse than an 82. She tied for 13th-place at Bowling Green State, her second top-20 finish in as many events.

Senior Janelle Warrick (Neenah, WI) shot the best Huskie round of the young season on Sunday, carding a 76 to finish the event at 163 (87-76), tying for 18th-place. Warrick's 76 was her best round since her career-best 75 in the 2001 Huskie Classic.
Freshman Ally Williams (Hoffman Estates / Palatine Fremd) made her NIU debut, shooting a 171 (87-84) in the 36-hole event. Sophomore Irish Whalen (Hanover / River Ridge) finished the event with an aggregate 175 (89-86).

Bowling Green State won the event, scoring a 622 (312-310), beating fellow Mid-American Conference member Toledo by eight strokes. BGSU's Shelly Binzel won medalist honors, carding a 148 (74-74) in the event.

The Northern Illinois University women's golf team returns to action next weekend at the Lady Northern Invitational. The event, which is hosted each year by the previous season's Big Ten champion, is being held at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, IA, and tees off at 8 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 28).
