MUNCIE, Ind.-The Northern Illinois University women's golf team is tied for 10th place after shooting a 319 in the first round of play at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State Monday.

Leading the way for the Huskies is junior Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) who is tied for 18th after posting a 77 (37-40). Freshman Kelsie Passolt (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) is a stroke behind Hunley and tied for 25th after shooting a 78 (37-41). Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill/Somonauk) is tied for 38th after carding an 80, with Michelle Caporusso (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) rounding out the Huskie finishers. Caporusso is tied for 66th after shooting an 84, while Lods sits at 66th with an 85.

"Kim hung in there and did a great job leading us today," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "We can definitely make up 10 shots tomorrow and I think, as close as everybody is on the leaderboard, we should be able to make some headway."

The Huskies are tied with fellow MAC foe Bowling Green and trail first place Ball State by 17 strokes. Other MAC notables include Ohio University, which is tied for sixth (312), and Akron, which is tied for second (305).

The Huskies wrap up competition at the Cardinal Classic tomorrow. Tee time is set for 9 a.m. Central Time.
