Hunley Named MAC Golfer of the Week
Sept. 30, 2009
CLEVELAND - Senior women's golfer Kim Hunley earned Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week accolades, the league announced Wednesday. Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) won the 25th Annual Huskie Classic, and was named the Sportswoman of the Tournament for the second straight season. Hunley opened with a 77 at Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, Ill. She followed that by tying the tournament low round of 75 on day two, which saw whipping winds swirl across the course all day. "I don't know of anyone else that could've posted a performance like Kim did in the conditions she played in," head coach Pam Tyska said. "I don't believe I've ever seen her play as well as she did, and the brutal conditions forced her to have a new level of focus." The only player to shoot two sub-80 rounds, Hunley carded a two-round score of 152, eight strokes better than the second place competitor. "It's impressive to have a personal best or a championship performance on a day when the wind is gusting 50 miles per hour," Tyska said. "It is a game different than golf, and she had to trust her intellect and her training." Hunley and the Huskies take aim at Brasada Canyons Golf Course in Powell Butte, Ore. next week for the NIU Dual and the NIU Invitational at Brasada Ranch.
