Huskie football team travels to Central Michigan in pursuit of 6-0 start (10/6)
October 6, 2003 Jackie Heslop leads the Northern Illinois women's golf team to fourth at the Huskie Classic HUNTLEY, IL
-- Jackie Heslop (Pequot Lakes, MN) shot a final-round 81 to tie
for 10th overall and lead the Northern Illinois women’s golf
team to a fourth-place finish at the 19th annual Huskie Classic
hosted Monday (Oct. 6) by NIU at the Whisper Creek Golf Course. After opening
with a 7-over-par 79 on Sunday, Heslop shot an 81 during the final
round on Monday to earn the top-10 placing. It’s Heslop’s
second top-10 finish of the season, as she finished second at the
Western Illinois Westerwind Classic (Sept. 12-13). Following Heslop
was Irish Whalen (Hanover/River Ridge) and Allison Williams (Hoffman
Estates/Palatine Fremd), who each tied for 16th with two-day totals
of 162. Whalen opened her round in great fashion, as she birdied
the first hole and shot an impressive 39 on the front side enroute
to shooting 82 for the round. Williams, playing as a member of the
NIU Black team, shot the best round on any Huskie on Monday, as
she recorded a 7-over-par 79 to move up the leaderboard. Jackie Bailey
(Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham) was NIU’s third finisher, as she
shot a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine and carried that momentum
to a final-round 80. Lisa Bailey
(Decatur/Warrensburg-Latham) and Jamie Carney (Rolling Meadows)
rounded out the scoring for the Huskies. Lisa Bailey carded an 84
during her last round of the event to tie for 27th, while Carney
shot 89 to tie for 34th. This was the
final event of the Fall season for the Northern Illinois women’s
