DeKALB, Ill.-- The Northern Illinois University women's golf team sits in eighth place after shooting 624 on the first day of the Shoot-out at the Legends at Legends Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. Monday.

"This was the day we feared because we've had some injuries this semester and we were worried what would happen after 10 hours of golf in a 36-hole day," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "We got off to a great start. We shot a 305 in the first round and were tied for fifth. Then we flipped a little bit. The injuries reared their head in the second five hours of golf and we shot a 319 finishing in eighth. The good thing is it's under our belt and we're right in the ballgame."

Jessica Parmenter (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) is the highest Huskie on the leaderboard, tied for 23 after shooting a two-round score of 153 (74, 79). Sophomore Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./ West Aurora) is right behind her in 26th after posting a 154 (78, 76). Senior Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) is tied for 41st after shooting a 159 (77, 82).

Devon Harteneck (Rochester, Minn./Lincoln) finished tied for 52nd after shooting a 162 (80, 82) while Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk) is tied for 63rd after shooting a 165 (76, 89). Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) rounded out the Huskie finishers, tying for 71st after posting a 168 (82, 86) in her return to her home state.

MAC rival Eastern Michigan and Illinois are tied for the lead after shooting a 595. Grand Valley State is in third (601), while Illinois State is in fourth (603). Ball State is fifth, 20 strokes ahead of NIU. The Huskies lead fellow MAC schools Toledo, which is in ninth place, two strokes behind NIU and 12th place Bowling Green State, 26 strokes back.
