Northern Illinois University Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season
Oct. 9, 2007
DeKALB, Ill.- The Northern Illinois University women's golf team concluded its fall schedule shooting a 941 for a ninth-place finish in the Shoot-out at the Legends at Legends Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. Tuesday. Jessica Parmenter (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian), the highest Huskie on the leaderboard, turned in a final round 74, shooting 227 for the tournament to finish tied for ninth with two other competitors. The lone Huskie to crack the Top 10, Parmenter had a solid fall campaign and is a strong candidate for MAC Freshman of the Year. Sophomore Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./ West Aurora) moved up three spots to 23rd place, tying with two other golfers, after posting a final round 78 for a three-round total of 232. Senior Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) also gained three spots, finishing in a tie for 38th after shooting 80 on the final round for a two-day total of 239. "Jessica had a great tournament. I think she's the low freshman in this great field," said NIU head coach Pam Tyska. "Kim, who was suffering from a knee injury, really hung in there all three rounds. Abbie completed the fall season with a fractured back. She played really well. It was just tough to get her going after the 36-hole day Monday." Nicci Schultz (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk) finished tied for 68th after shooting 252 for the tournament, while Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) and Devon Harteneck (Rochester, Minn./Lincoln) rounded out the Huskie competitors finishing tied for 70th after shooting a 253 for the tournament. MAC rival Eastern Michigan won the tourney, shooting 888 for the two days. Illinois was in second (900), Grand Valley State (904) took third, while Ball State (916) and Illinois State (916) tied for fourth. Southern Illinois (925) took sixth, Georgetown (930) seventh and St John's (936) eighth. Indiana State (943) finished behind the Huskies in 10th, while Toledo took 11th with a 947. Bowling Green (968) and Old Dominion (980) round out the rest of the field finishing in 12th and 13th respectively.
The NIU women's golf team had a very successful fall season. The Huskies won the 23rd Annual Huskie Classic, Many won the Western Illinois Invitational and Parmenter emerged as a one of the best golfers on the team. The Huskies head into the winter with plenty to build on. "We will start again in February," she said. "We'll be led by Jessica, Kim and Abbie in the spring. We'll use the rest of the fall to determine the best starting line up and get everybody healthy. "Unfortunately we're back to searching for a fourth score. We just have to get everybody healed and healthy so that we have our full arsenal of Huskies to chose from to be our consistent fourth scorer." The Huskies begin their spring schedule February 10 when the Huskies travel to Baja, Mexico to face off against Southern Miss. |
