2014: One of two Huskie gymnasts to qualify for the NCAA Championships, competing in the floor exercise. She scored a 9.775 at the NCAAs. She set a career mark in floor exercise with 9.850 against Central Michigan (3-2) while also scoring 9.700 on the balance beam and the vault. Almost matched that performance exactly at the MAC Championships tying her career mark of 9.850 in floor exercise and also getting a 9.600 on the balance beam and 9.700 in the vault. Tied a career high on the balance beam with a 9.750 against Arizona State (3-14) and also scoring 9.725 on the vault and 9.825 in floor exercise. Her season best score on the vault came at the Eagle Invitational (3-8) where she scored a 9.825, she also won the floor exercise with a 9.825 and scored 9.500 on the balance beam.
2013: One of the NIU's most consistent gymnasts on three events; ranked second on the team on vault and third on balance beam. Took third place on vault at the MAC Championships with a 9.850 to tie for the Huskies' best performance of the day. Led the way as NIU broke the school record for team vault score. Second at the State Meet on vault with a career-high 9.850, tied for 12th on NIU's all-time vault list. Recorded 14 top five finishes, including five each on vault and beam and four on floor exercise. Threw a harder vault at the end of the season and scored 9.800 or higher on it three times in four attempts. Twice scored a career-high 9.750 on beam including at the MAC Championships, and had five scores of 9.700 or higher on beam. Won floor exercise at Ball State and placed second three times. Scored 9.750 or higher on floor seven times and earned her career-high score of 9.800 in four meets. Member of the All-State Gymnastics Team after placing second on vault at the State Championships. Victory Scholar (3.5 and above) in NIU's Academic Excellence Program; Named to the Academic All-State Team.
2012: As a true freshman, competed in all 12 meets for the Huskies on vault and balance beam. Saw action as an exhibition gymnast on floor exercise. Placed in the top five on beam against SEMO (1-13), Ball State (2-4), Bowling Green (2-11) and Illinois State (3-4). Had a career performance at the MAC Championships with a 9.700 on vault and a 9.800 on floor. Recorded her season and career high of 9.725 on beam against Ball State (2-4), where she placed second, and again at Illinois State (3-4). Scored above a 9.60 seven times on vault to average a 9.610 for the season.
Prep: Trained at All-American Flames Gymnastix in Port Huron, Mich. where she competed at Level 10 for three years. Posted career highs of 9.725 on vault, 9.500 on floor exercise and 9.400 on balance beam as a USA Gymnastics Level 10 competitor. Took second on vault at the 2010 Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament with a 9.400 and was fourth on floor exercise with a 9.450. Placed seventh in the all-around at the Junior Olympic N.I.T. with a score of 36.425. Won vault at 2010 Region 5 Championships with a 9.650 and placed third on floor, scoring 9.500. Won Michigan state title vault in 2010 after earning a 9.700 at state meet and was fourth on floor exercise (9.500), fifth in the all-around (36.475) and sixth on balance beam (9.175). In 2009, tied for third on vault and was fourth in the all-around at the Junior Olympic N.I.T. with marks of 9.475 and 36.600, respectively. As a Level 9 gymnast in 2008, placed third in the all-around with a personal best 37.150 and third on floor exercise at the Level 9 Eastern Championships. Won the floor exercise in Region 5 Championships that season.
Personal: Daughter of Michael and Robin Stepp of Lapeer, Michigan. Born in Warren, Mich. Member of the National Honor Society in high school. Admires gymnast Alicia Sacramone. Her aunt, Heather Stepp, was a collegiate gymnast at Georgia where she was a member of the 1993 national championship team. Intends to major in nursing. Honored as a Victory Scholar for achieving a GPA above 3.5.
