Northern Illinois vs. Ball State Gymnastics

Northern Illinois defeated Ball State, 192.925-191.125, to earn its first Mid-American Conference win of the season.

NIU Career Bests: Vault - 9.675 (at UIC, 3-6-10); Uneven Bars - 9.825 (at State of Illinois Classic, 3-14-09); Beam - 9.825 (at Western Michigan, 3-9-09); Floor - 9.825 (vs. Western Michigan, 1-17-10); All-Around - 38.775 (at Texas Woman's Quadrangular, 2-7-10).

2011: Competed in 10 of 11 meets for the Huskies. Sidelined versus Eastern Michigan (1-16) competition due to injury. Saw action 10 times on balance beam, seven times on vault, once on uneven parallel bars and in six meets on floor exercise. Averaged a 9.645 on floor exercise to rank second on the team. Posted an average of 9.517 on vault. Scored 9.500 or higher four times on vault, in five out of six performances on floor exercise and seven times on beam. In the Huskies line-up in all four events in the season-opening meet versus Kentucky and Illinois (1-8), and recorded an all-around score of 37.175 highlighted by a 9.600 on floor exercise. Posted her best scores of the season on vault, beam and floor at UIC (3-1) with marks of 9.625, 9.700 and 9.775, respectively. Took fifth on floor exercise at UIC. Tied her bestbeam mark versus Kent State (2-20) to finish fourth, and again at the State of Illinois Classic (3-12). Had a good showing at the MAC Championships (3-19) with a 9.675 on floor, 9.650 on beam and 9.500 on vault. All three marks ranked among the top three on the Huskie team. Placed second on balance beam with a score of 9.550 against Bowling Green (1-23). Finished third on floor exercise at Ball State (2-25) with a 9.725. Earned a 9.700 on floor at Iowa (3-5). Other top marks included a 9.650 on balance beam at Central Michigan (1-30) and a 9.575 vault versus Kent State (2-20)

2010: Competed in the all-around in every meet for the Huskies as a sophomore, performing a total of 44 routines. Earned her highest scores of the season on floor exercise, including a team season-best 9.825 versus Western Michigan (1-17) to earn the event title. Also scored a season-high 9.750 to win balance beam at that meet. Her top all-around performance came at the Texas Woman's Quadrangular (2-7) where she earned a 38.775 with a 9.525 on vault, a season-best 9.750 on bars, 9.725 on beam and 9.775 on floor exercise. Took second on bars, third on floor and fourth on beam at that event. Recorded three all-around scores of 38 or higher on the year with a 38.600 at Kent State (2-19) and a 38.275 versus Ball State (1-31). Posted a 9.800 on floor at Kent State and added a 9.675 on bars at that meet. Her season and career best vault scored a 9.675 at UIC (3-6) to take fourth place. Scored a 9.625 on vault at the MAC Championships (3-27) and had a 9.650 vault at the State of Illinois Classic (3-20). Averaged a 9.455 on vault for the season and scored a 9.5 or higher on the event in eight of NIU's last nine meets. Scored a 9.6 or higher on bars in six straight meets, with a 9.750 at Texas Woman's Meet and at UIC to take second and third, respectively. Fourth on bars and second on beam at Ball State with 9.725 on both events. Posted a 9.700 on both floor exercise and uneven parallel bars versus Central Michigan (2-28). Earned a 9.775 on floor exercise at State of Illinois Classic and had a 9.750 at Bowling Green (1-24) and at Eastern Michigan (3-13). Tallied a 9.700 or higher on floor in seven of 11 outings on the year and averaged a 9.534 on floor for the season.

2009: Cracked the Huskie line-up on three events as a freshman. Competed in all 10 meets on balance beam and floor exercise and in seven meets on uneven parallel bars. Tallied six top five finishes during the year, four on bars and one each on beam and floor. Earned her career best scores on uneven parallel bars and floor exercise at the State Championships with a 9.825 and 9.750, respectively. Added a 9.800 on balance beam to finish eighth in that event after placing fourth on bars. Won the balance beam event at Western Michigan with a season-best score of 9.825, tied for second highest on the team for the year and took third on bars with a 9.725. Scored a 9.600 or higher six times on balance beam. Posted four scores of 9.650 or higher on bars and added a 9.700 in exhibition action against Ball State. Scored a 9.750 on bars at Central Michigan and a 9.650 versus Kent State to place fourth in both meets. Her most consistent event was floor exercise as she averaged a 9.578 with eight scores of 9.600 or higher, including three 9.650s and a 9.675 at the MAC Championships. Took fifth on floor exercise versus Bowling Green with a 9.625.

Prep: Trained at Arena Gymnastics and Gymnastics Plus. Reached Level 10 competition status. As a junior, placed second in the all-around at Regionals. Placed seventh in the all-around as a senior at Regionals; her scores of 9.4, 9.5, 8.95, and 9.35 in the vault, bars, beam, and floor exercise, respectively, propelled her to advance to the state competition, where she placed fifth. Progressed to Nationals where she tallied scores of 9.35 on vault, 9.275 on balance beam, and 9.3 for the floor exercise. Named Most Improved Gymnast in 2008 by her club team. Outside of gymnastics, was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club, and was Spanish Club President. Earned honor roll status all four years, and was named Spanish Student of the Year in 2008. Awarded the distinguished honors diploma.

Personal: Born April 22, 1990 in Downers Grove, Ill., to Michael Rachan and Shirley Micic. Majoring in biology. A Huskie Scholar with a GPA above 3.0.
