Chuck Codd is the newest member of the NIU coaching staff, bringing experience that includes a professional playing career and a previous assistant coaching role at the Division I level. "We are excited to have Chuck on our staff as volunteer assistant coach," said head coach Marci Miller Jobson. "He comes with great experience both as a player and coach, having been an assistant at Northwestern and the director of coaching for the Chicago Sockers girls' program. Not only does he know the talent in the Chicago area very well, but he is also great at developing the talent he already is working with. Chuck has a magnetic personality and his players love to play for him." Codd most recently served as the girls' team director for the Chicago Sockers club team based in Palatine. Prior to that role, he was an assistant coach at Northwestern for four seasons, working one year with the men's program and the final three with the women's team. As a professional soccer player, Codd won three national championships with the Chicago Stingers/Sockers outdoor team from 1997-2000. Prior to his outdoor stint, Codd spent seven seasons playing for the Chicago Power, Cincinnati Silverbacks and Buffalo Blizzard of the NPSL. Codd's experience includes local ties as coach for the Celtics club in St. Charles for three years and one year at St. Charles High School. In addition, he spent two years coaching with the Tophat girls' club in Atlanta. A native of Torrance, Calif., Codd is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in history. While a prep at South Torrance High, he played for the Fram Culver Club. Codd is married to Charmaine Hooper, a member of the Canadian National Team who is regarded as one of the top women's soccer players in the world. The couple has a daughter named Charlie. |
