ORLANDO, Fla. - The Northern Illinois women's soccer team opened its exhibition schedule Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw against Big East foe USF. NIU plays its second and final preseason match Thursday at UCF.
Sara McClard (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) netted the Huskies goal in the game's 40th minute. Freshman Annie Wyer (Geneva, Ill./Community) challenged the Bulls goalkeeper and when the ball got away, McClard seized the opportunity and found the back of the net to make it 1-0 NIU.
USF evened the game 10 minutes in the second half on a rebound goal after Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) made the initial save.
"This was a great match for the preseason," said associate head coach Paul Jobson. "Everyone played and got experience and it was good to see how the newcomers responded to Division I competition. The game itself was a fierce battle that resembled a midseason MAC match."
