DeKALB, Ill. - For the second consecutive match, Northern Illinois' women's soccer team held its opponent scoreless. On Sunday, that effort resulted in a scoreless tie against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Huskies are now 1-0-1 on the young season while Iowa is 0-0-2. "When you play a Big Ten team it is always a battle," said associate head coach Paul Jobson. "We played hard and I am really proud of the defensive effort of this team. We saw our fitness training come into play today and I think the goals will come." Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) played the first 64:25 of the match and combined with Audrey Holmer (Elmhurst, Ill./York), who played the final 45:35 in net, to record the shutout. The first half featured a physical defensive battled that resulted in 45 minutes without either team recording a shot. NIU held the Hawkeyes without a shot until midway through the second half at the game's 64th minute. NIU outshot Iowa 7-2 in the second half before the teams each recorded a pair of shots in overtime. The Huskies host a pair of games next weekend, taking on Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday at 4 p.m. and Western Illinois Sunday at 1 p.m.
