CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Northern Illinois improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-2 double overtime victory over Northern Iowa Friday night. The Huskies are off t their best start since 2004 and their school-record unbeaten streak is now at 10 games, dating back to Oct. 14, 2007.

Reigning MAC Player of the Week Thea Johnson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) recorded a career-best four-point night to improve her season total to nine. The senior midfielder scored the game's first goal and assisted on the game-winner by Kelsey Passaglia (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove), her first collegiate marker.

"Our team showed character in their first overtime game," said head coach Carrie Barker. "Playing an overtime game was a good learning experience for us, but we got a little too casual after we built a lead and let them back in the game and we can't have those types of mental lapses."

Johnson gave NIU a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute and assisted on a goal by Becca Ford (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), her second of the year, three minutes later.

The Panthers trimmed the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Nichole Ferlito at 30:42. UNI knotted the game in second half on a score by Chelsie Hochstedler in the 66th minute.

After a scoreless first overtime, Passaglia netted the deciding goal at 105:24 on Johnson's second assist of the night.

The Huskies continue their road swing with a Sunday afternoon match at Green Bay beginning at 1 p.m.
