CHICAGO, Ill. - Northern Illinois scored a first half goal before DePaul knotted the game with a second half score in a 1-1 overtime tie Sunday afternoon. Jestina Orlando (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South/North Dakota State) tallied her second goal of the season as the Huskies concluded their two-game weekend road swing with a 2-2-2 record. DePaul ended the day with a 2-4-1 record.
Orlando's team-leading marker came early in the game when she found the back of the net from eight yards in front at 15:19. The goal was assisted by Kelly Mullany (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Maddie Lehman (St. Charles, Ill./North).
DePaul answered at 57:58 when Callie Hemming scored her second goal of the season on a 25-yard shot on an assist by Tara Strickland.
"It was nice to score a goal and end our drought and get the monkey off our back," said associate head coach Paul Jobson. "The goal we gave up was a quality goal. We battled for 110 minutes, had opportunities to finish and I thought we were the better team today."
NIU outshot DePaul 12-8, including the only two shots in the extra session. Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and Audrey Holmer (Elmhurst, Ill./York) shared duties in net for the Huskies.
Northern returns to the Huskie Soccer Field for its next match, Sunday, Sept. 23 against St. Francis (Pa.) at 1 p.m.
