DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois used a pair of first half goals by Karen Enockson (St. Charles, Ill/East) and Jestina Orlando (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South/North Dakota State) and a second half marker by Cara Stutler (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) for 3-0 victory over St. Francis (Pa.). The Huskies wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-2-2 record, yielding just three goals against in seven matches.
Enockson scored her first goal of the season at 30:10 on a penalty kick after a handball by the Red Flash. Late in the first half, Orlando notched her third goal of the year, scoring on a long ball that bounder over the St. Francis goalkeeper's head.
Stutler's goal came off a corner kick by Elaine Eliadis (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) in the final two minutes of play.
"The three goals we got today came as a result of the way we pressure and those weren't going our way earlier this season," said associate head coach Paul Jobson. "I thought we had a total team effort today and played a great game on both offensively and defensively. This game is a good way to head into MAC play."
Northern Illinois controlled play offensively throughout the match and stifled any offense attack attempts from St. Francis, who dropped to 3-5-0.
(Elmhurst, Ill./York) posted a scoreless first half in goal while Lindsey Curnock
(Batavia, Ill./Batavia) spent the second half in net for the Huskies. Holmer earned her first career victory in the win as NIU posted its fourth shutout of the 2007 campaign.
NIU opens MAC play next weekend with a weekend road swing at Bowling Green Friday and Toledo Sunday.
