DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's soccer team recorded its fourth clean sheet of the season in the Huskies first overtime match of the season, tying Western Michigan, 0-0. Goalkeeper Amy Carr made five saves in the match.

"All four defenders went the full 110 and they were outstanding," said Head coach John Ross, "they were fighting and they were in the right places all day, as was our team defensively."

The Huskies (4-4-1, 0-1-1 MAC) defensive backfield of Lauren Eberts, Courtney Ksiazek, Lauren Solomon and Kayra Thompson played all 110 minutes of the match, defending three corner kicks attempts and forcing the Western Michigan (4-4-2, 0-0-2 MAC) defense to take several low-percentage shots.

The match was a physical one as each team combined for 23 fouls in the match and one yellow card.

Northern Illinois worked the corners and created its chances from eight corner kick attempts. Sara Spaulding entered the match in the 24th minute of play and immediately contributed in NIU's attack, collecting a corner kick in the 25th minute and firing straight on net. WMU goalkeeper Michelle Watson saved the low shot with her shins and collected the ball to end the threat. Spaulding put all three of her shots on frame in the match.

From her spot in the backline, Ksiazek put two shots on frame, one from inside 18-yard box on a corner kick and the other on a free kick that forced Watson to jump up and stretch for the save over her head in the 67th minute.

Carr earned her fourth shutout of the season and the 13th of her career. The Hemel Hempstead, England native has allowed two goals in the last four matches, both on penalty kicks. She last allowed a shot on goal slip past her in the 61st minute at Northwestern on Sept. 7 (399 minutes in net since then).

It is NIU's first draw against WMU since Oct. 29, 2009, also a 0-0 tie.

The Huskies will hit the road next weekend for a pair of MAC contests at Akron and Buffalo.
