MUNCIE, Ind. - Through the rain and steady wind, the Northern Illinois women's soccer team took on Ball State in its second Mid-American Conference match of the season. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Cardinals added two goals and defeated the Huskies, 3-0.
"We didn't have the same bite that Ball State had today," said Head Coach Carrie Barker, "We weren't able to overcome the conditions today and we are moving on to next weekend."
Ball State opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Sarah Orsich off a deflected shot and held the 1-0 lead at the half. NIU outshot BSU 6-5 in the half, but the shots sailed wide and high of the frame.
Senior Becca Ford fired the first shot frame for the Huskies, and was quickly followed up by shots on goal by Shelbi Johnson and Kelsey Passaglia. Pavla Benyrova recorded Ball State's second goal after Passaglia's shot at the 58 minute mark and Becca Sutton captured the Cardinals third goal 10 minutes later.
All told Northern Illinois totaled 11 shots in the match and three corner kicks.
NIU falls to 1-7-2 for the season and 0-2 in conference, while BSU is now 6-4-1 and 1-1 in the MAC. The Huskies return home for a pair of home matches against Akron (Sept. 30) and Ohio (Oct. 2). The matches will begin at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
