NIU 0, EMU 0 Final Box
Ypsilanti, Mich. - After 110 minutes of play, the Northern Illinois women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Eastern Michigan in a defensive Mid-American Conference match-up. As a result, the Huskies' mark moves to 5-3-4, 1-2-1 in the MAC, while the Eagles move to 7-3-3, 2-1-1.
"We played a very physical game against a very good team," said NIU head coach Carrie Barker. "We showed a lot of character today. We played well and I'm not disappointed with how we played."
Each team managed to get six shots on goal, but none found the back of the net as both goalkeepers were solid all day. NIU junior Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) totaled six saves, while her counterpart Maggie Manville did the same.
The EMU offense put up 15 total shots compared to NIU's 11, led by Huskie junior Lisa Maier's (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) three shots on goal. The Eagles also tallied 11 corner kicks to NIU's zero.
"Both teams had opportunities and we can walk away saying the ball was not going to bounce into their net or ours," Barker said. "It was just a physical, hard fought game."
The Huskies return home on Friday, October 10 to face Ohio at 4 p.m. CST in another MAC match-up.
