DeKALB, Ill. - Buoyed by a three-point outing from Lisa Maier (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), Northern Illinois used two first half goals to secure a 2-1 victory over Buffalo Sunday at the Huskie Soccer Field. Maier recorded her first goal of the season and added an assist to account for NIU's tallies.

The Huskies improved to 5-4-2 overall while evening their conference mark at 2-2-0. Buffalo dropped to 3-8-1 and 0-4-0 in the MAC.

"I was happy with the way we bounced back today after a tough loss on Friday," head coach Marci Miller Jobson said. "Our team battled well and we played a very good game overall. I was happy to see Lisa play well and get her first goal of the year."

Maier got NIU on the board with a goal at 12:30 that was assisted by Thea Johnson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor). Less than five minutes later, the Huskies struck again when Maddie Lehman (St. Charles, Ill./North) scored on a header off a corner from Maier at 17:25.

Buffalo trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at 21:24 when Andrea Vescio found the back of the net on a play assisted by Lindsey Bailey and Kathleen Fage.

 

 

The teams tightened up defensively for the remainder of the contest, resulting in a scoreless final 68:36.

NIU resumes action Friday at Ball State in the first of a four-match MAC road swing.
