OXFORD, Ohio - Northern Illinois women's soccer fell to Miami (Ohio) 3-0 today in the first of two road matches this weekend. The Huskies will follow up Sunday with a match at Bowling Green.
"We both needed to win today," said Head Coach Carrie Barker, "Miami is a great program, one of the best in the conference in my oppinion, and their chances went in today. I was proud of the way of our girls fought to the very end in the match."
Junior Shelbi Johnson and senior Kelsey Passaglia led the Huskies in shots with two each. Johnson put two shots on frame in the first half, both gstopped by goalkeeper Allison Norenberg.
Northern Illinois sophomore goalkeeper Amy Carr made five saves in the contest.
NIU had nine players enter the contest off the bench, including senior Meaghan Bennett in goal. Bennett made one save.
Miami scored its first goal of the contest in the opening five minutes of the match, a strike by Redhawk leading scorer Jess Kodiak, to put Miami up 1-0.
The Redhawks then added goals in the 51st and 53rd minutes, another added by Kodiak and a goal by Katy Dolesh, respectively.
Northern Illinois falls to 2-13-2, 1-8-0 in Mid-American Conference play, while Miami is now 9-7-0 and 4-5-0 in the MAC. NIU will return to action Sunday at noon for a match in Bowling Green.
