NIU Women's Soccer Team Falls to Miami (OH), 3-1
Oct. 24, 2008
DEKALB, Ill.-The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team fell to Miami (OH), 3-1, at the Northern Illinois Soccer and Track and Field Complex Friday afternoon. "We had some great moments and played well," NIU head coach Carrie Barker said. "We just lost focus for a few moments and Miami took advantage of that. We couldn't get out of that situation, mentally, and Miami did well to finish the game. We just didn't have our best 90-minute game today." The Huskies (8-4-5, 4-3-2) fell behind early, when the RedHawks' (5-10-1, 4-5-0) Sara Lund scored in the fourth minute of the game to give Miami (OH) and early 1-0 lead. The Huskies responded with the equalizer in the 16th minute when Mo Smunt (St. Charles, Ill./East) scored off a long pass from Thea Johnson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor). Miami's Eva Candia scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute when she headed in a corner kick from Danielle Hays and Courtney Clarke scored the final goal of the game on a fast break in the 76th minute. The Huskies struggled on offense in the second half. NIU had 11 shots on goal in the first half, but were held to five scoring chances in the second. The Huskies are back in action Sunday, Oct. 25 when NIU plays host to Ball State in its final home game of the season at the Northern Illinois Soccer and Track and Field Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Central.
