DeKALB, Ill. - In a fitting end to Senior Day, Karen Enockson (St. Charles, Ill./East) scored a dramatic game-winning goal to lift Northern Illinois to a 1-0 victory over Eastern Michigan Sunday at the Huskie Soccer Field. The win put the Huskies (8-5-4, 5-3-2) and into the MAC Tournament for the second consecutive season and ended the Eagles (7-6-4, 5-3-2) six-match unbeaten streak.

"People have been asking me what my greatest soccer moment has been and I have to say that today's win was it," head coach Marci Miller Jobson said. "We had to have a win today and our girls battled throughout the game and ended up getting it in a dramatic way against a great team. Karen's goal was a great way to cap Senior Day and our other seniors really stepped up and played well for us today."

Enockson's goal at 88:53 broke a scoreless deadlock on an assist from Lisa Maier (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and clinched a berth in the MAC Tournament one year after NIU made a run to the championship match. Enockson's team-best sixth goal of the season was the 19th of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth on the NIU all-time list.

"I was just thinking `get in it the net' and everything was a blur," Enockson said. "Lisa made an awesome play and the credit goes to her. I think the ball hit one of their players in front of the net before it went in. To win like this on Senior Day is great."

Goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), who earned MAC Player of the Week honors last week, made two saves for her sixth shutout of the season and her NIU-record 13th of her career.

Northern Illinois outshot Eastern Michigan 12-4 and led the shots on goal category 8-2. The Huskies dominated the offensive third of the field during the final 20 minutes of the first half, including a Maier scoring chance that Eagle goalkeeper Maggie Manville denied with a sprawling save to keep the match scoreless.

The Huskies, who have their highest regular-season in a decade, wrap up the regular season Thursday, Nov. 1 at Western Michigan. MAC Tournament play begins Sunday, Nov. 4.
