DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois' women's soccer program announced its spring exhibition schedule, which begins on Sunday and features one home match and a four-team tournament at the Huskie Soccer Field. The Huskies are coming off a MAC Tournament Final appearance last season when they made their deepest postseason run since 1998.
NIU begins its spring schedule on February 25 with a road match against the University of Wisconsin. The following weekend, the Huskies host 2006 Horizon League champion Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday, March 4. After the university's spring break, NIU resumes action by traveling to Chicago for a match at Loyola on March 24.
The Huskies finish their spring slate with a pair of April tournaments. On April 1, NIU travels to Champaign for a tournament involving several state schools, including host Illinois, who finished 2006 as the second-ranked team in the Great Lakes region.
Two weekends later, NIU returns home to wrap up the spring schedule by hosting a four-team tournament on April 14 that includes Loyola, Northwestern, and Wisconsin-Parkside. Times and match-ups will be announced at a later date.
"We are looking to accomplish a lot this spring and with the way the team has come together off of last fall's MAC Tournament run, I think we can get a lot done," said head coach Marci Miller. "We want to continue to get technically better on the ball this spring and to get more comfortable in our system. Our team is still young, so the experience they will gain this spring will be very valuable."
On April 15, NIU will host its annual team banquet where a drawing will be held to win Miller's U.S. National Team jersey signed by the U.S. team. Raffle tickets for the jersey are available for purchase until April 11.
NIU returns its top seven scorers from 2006 and goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock. Leading the way offensively is team scoring leader Karen Enockson and Freshman All-MAC honoree Lisa Maier.
