DeKALB, IL -- Northern Illinois University Women's Soccer Head Coach Marci Miller is part of the 18-player roster selected by United States Women's National Team coach Greg Ryan for Saturday's (July 15) international match with Sweden.
The contest, which is the U.S. squad's first domestic match of the year, takes place at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN, with ESPN2 scheduled to begin its coverage at 5 p.m. (CDT). According to the latest FIFA world rankings, the USA holds the No. 2 spot while the Swedes are ranked No. 5. Up to this point, the United States has compiled a 6-0-3 ledger playing all nine matches abroad.
Miller, who starts her second season as head coach of the Huskie women's program, has been training with the Women's National Team throughout the summer in addition to continuing her NIU recruiting along with assistant coach / husband Paul Jobson. The USA press release announcing the squad for the Sweden match noted that the team "will be without defensive midfielder Shannon Boxx, who has not yet recovered from hip surgery. Twenty-three-year-old Leslie Osborne and 30-year-old Marci Miller may see time in place of Boxx." Miller is hoping to earn her sixth "cap," the term used for playing experiences with the national team.
The USA has had success against Sweden over the years, piling up a 12-3-5 record against the 2003 Women's World Cup runner-up. However the last nine matches have been highly competitive with the USA holding a slight edge at three wins, two losses and four ties.
