DeKALB - The NIU women’s soccer program announced its 19 match schedule, nine of which will be played at home. The schedule is highlighted by the program’s first ever trip to Hawaiʻi as the Huskies take part in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi.

NIU will spend its Labor Day in Hawai’i taking on the Rainbow Wahine Aug. 29 and Seattle U on Aug. 31. The Huskies will kickoff their home schedule Friday, Sept. 5 versus Nebraska Omaha at 7 p.m. The contest under the lights of the NIU Soccer Complex is one of four for the Huskies this season at home.

"We are very excited for the 2014 season,” said Head Coach John Ross. “Our non-conference opponents will be challenging and help prepare us for our MAC schedule. We are looking forward to seeing the players when camp starts and getting the season started.”

NIU will play a friendly exhibition at IPFW on Aug. 12 in preparation for the regular season. The Mastadons are coached by former Huskie Assistant Coach Jason Burr (2008-11), who’ll begin his first season in Fort Wayne in 2014. NIU’s first five matches will be played on the road with the regular season kicking off Friday, Aug. 22 at Illinois State at 4 p.m.

The Huskies will take on first-year program Chicago State Friday, Sept. 12, meeting the Cougars halfway from Chicago in Naperville for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Cougars are one of four teams from Illinois that NIU will play this season, going to ISU (Aug. 22) and Western Illinois (Aug. 24) while hosting SIU-Edwardsville (Sept. 14)

NIU will conclude its non-conference schedule when it hosts UW-Green Bay on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The following week, NIU will begin its Mid-American Conference schedule as it plays at Central Michigan and Toledo on Sept. 26 and 28, respectively.

In their first home weekend of MAC play, Friday, Oct. 3, the Huskies will host Kent State at 7 p.m., followed by a contest with Ohio on Sunday at 1 p.m. NIU’s final home weekend will begin Friday, Oct. 24 when Eastern Michigan rolls to DeKalb and concludes with Bowling Green Oct. 26.

NIU will close the regular season Thursday, Oct. 30 versus Western Michigan at 2 p.m. Central time. The Mid-American Conference Tournament will begin three days later at one of four campus sites to be determined by the MAC regular season final standings.

The tournament’s semifinals and final will be hosted by the regular season champion Nov. 7 and 9. The first round of the NCAA Tournament will begin Nov. 13 or 14.
