DEKALB, Ill. -
The Northern Illinois women's soccer team will play its first of two 2010 exhibition matches at home, when they host Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a matchup at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. Central.
The exhibition season opener was originally scheduled to take place at Milwaukee, but has since been scheduled to be played on the Huskies' home turf. Head women's soccer Carrie Barker, who enters her third season with NIU, believes the contest is a great way to prepare for the regular season.
"We're excited to kick-off the season at home," Barker said. "I think it's a great opportunity for our fans to come out and have a chance to see us in action as we start our season."
The last time the Huskies face the Panthers was in 1997 during regular season. The series between the two teams is tied 1-1 in matches played in DeKalb.
Sunday's contest will be the first of a three-game home stretch for the Huskies. NIU will host Western Illinois on Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. in its second exhibition match before opening the regular season at home against Creighton on Aug. 23 at 5 p.m.
