The Northern Illinois women's soccer team will hit the road for the second-consecutive week as the Huskies travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the host Badgers in a 7:30 p.m. match-up Thursday night. Following the contest, the Huskies will continue their on-the-road action as they travel to Normal, Ill. to take on the Illinois State Redbirds, Sunday at 2 p.m.
In their first two match-ups of the season, the Huskies posted a 1-1 record with a 1-0 win over Valparaiso (Aug. 28) and 0-1 loss to Southeast Missouri State (Aug. 30).
In the first contest of the weekend, the Huskies will take on Barker's alma mater, Wisconsin, for the first time since the 2004 season.
"Our focus right now is on Wisconsin," Barker said. "We've had two very different games so far, and the game against Wisconsin is again going to be a different style for us."
Wisconsin heads into Thursday's game with a 1-1-1 record, posting a win against Wisconsin-Green Bay (Aug. 21), a loss to Notre Dame (Aug. 28) and a tie versus Wisconsin- Milwaukee (Aug. 24).
"The Big Ten will be the third conference we have faced this year and each conference helps us prepare for our own conference," said Barker. "Playing different conferences, different surfaces and different styles, helps us gain more experience. I am looking forward to competing against my alma mater."
Illinois State holds an 0-2-1 record as they enter Sunday's match-up. The Redbirds recorded losts against Illinois (Aug. 21) and New Mexico (Aug. 30), and earned a tie against UNLV (Aug. 28). Sunday's game will mark the fourth of five-consecutive road games for the Huskies.
