Come From Behind Win Launches Huskies to MAC Tournament at Toledo
The Northern Illinois women's soccer team made a spectacular come from behind effort in the final 21 minutes of its match with Toledo match, trailing, 1-0. Junior Kayra Thompson (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) tied the match in the 69th minute and freshman Nicole Gobbo (Bartlett) scored the game-winner to lift the Huskies over the Rockets, 2-1 ...
PREMIER SCORING ROCKET
Rachel MacLeod is currently third in the MAC in goals scored this season with 12. Her best production came in a game against Pepperdine on September 8. McLeod accounting for all of the offense in the 3-2 win for the Rockets, scoring a season-best three goals. McLeod has scored five goals in 10 MAC matchups this year.
PREVIOUS GAMES AGAINST TOLEDO
NIU has struggled historically against Toledo, holding a 5-11-2 all-time record against the team. However, the Huskies bested the Rockets last year, winning 2-1 in the second-to-last game of the regular season.
LAST TIME ON HUSKIES WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Huskies won two home games last weekend. On Friday, against Kent State, the Huskies beat the Gold Flashes 2-1 to keep their postseason hopes alive. On Senior Day, Sunday, October 27, the Huskies beat the Ohio Bobcats to clinch a spot in the MAC Championship Tournament. Huskie senior Samantha Hill scored her first goal of the season on Senior Day.
KSIAZEK NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FRANKENBERG'S SCORING LIFTS THE HUSKIES
Courtney Ksiazek was honored as the MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts last weekend. Ksiazek helped the Huskies hold onto two one-goal leads late in the matches. On both Friday and Sunday, the Huskies faced heavy pressure from the opposing offenses. Ksiazek helped alleviate some of the pressure by coming up with key clears, allowing the the Huskies to win both games and clinch spot in the postseason.
Dating back to last season, the Huskies are 6-0-1 when Cori Frankenberg
scores. In those games, the senior forward from Appleton, Wis. has claimed two equalizers and five game-winners. Frankenberg is second on the Huskies in points this season with eight, coming from three goals and two asssits.
DEFENDING THE HOME TURF
The Huskies have done their best work this season when playing in front of the home crowd. NIU is 6-0-1 at home in 2013, allowing just five goals in the seven home games. The Huskies were also able to claim their first ever double-overtime victory in the MAC this season against Buffalo, winning 2-1 on Sunday, October 6.

With the win last Sunday, the Huskies clinched a MAC Championship Tournament berth for the second straight season. Currently, NIU is seventh in the MAC. Depending on what happens around the conference on Thursday, the Huskies could finish as high as sixth or as low as eighth.
NEXT TIME FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER
The regular season is over after the game against Toledo on Thursday. The Huskies will be on the road for the first round of the MAC Championship Tournament on Sunday, November 3. The time, location, and opponent are to be announced following the completion of all MAC matches on Thursday.
