DEKALB, Ill. -
Northern Illinois women's soccer freshman Lauren Eberts (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) was named to the 2009 All-Mid American Conference Freshman team, the league announced Thursday.
"It's nice to see Lauren get some recognition from the conference," head women's soccer coach Carrie Barker said. "She had a great freshman season and deserves this award."
Eberts was an important part of the Huskie defense that recorded five shutouts on the season, including against MAC foes Toledo (Sept. 27) and Western Michigan (Oct. 29). Eberts also helped lead the Huskies to shutouts against Valparaiso (Aug. 28), SIU Edwardsville (Sept. 11) and Oakland (Sept. 18).
A vital member of the Huskie defense, Eberts helped hold their opponents to an average of eight shot attempts per game on the Huskies' home turf. She is part of the Huskie defense that ranks NIU seventh in the MAC in goals allowed (20), goals-against-average (1.07), and saves (77).
Eberts is the first Huskie to be garnered with the honor since teammate Lisa Maier in the 2006 season.
"We have some great young players in the program," said Barker. "I'm sure there will be more awards to come in the future."
