Joanna Lane begins her second year in the Huskie program, after arriving at NIU with a solid softball background that includes head coaching experience.
Lane came to NIU after serving as head coach at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. The Circleville, Ohio native led the Pioneers to an increasing improving record as they went 4-38 in the season before Lane's arrival, and then 9-33 and 12-30 in her tenure there. The Pioneers also finished fifth in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament during Lane's last two seasons. While at the helm of the Wesleyan program, Lane also served as the GSAC Chair for softball.
While a four-year starter and three-year captain at Georgetown College (Ky.), Lane finished her career batting .286 while the Tigers snagged the Mid-South Athletic Conference Championship twice and finished second in NAIA Region XI in 2002.
After her graduation in 2002, Lane pursued a master's degree in sport management at Florida State University. In her time as a grad assistant under JoAnne Graf, the Seminoles were a familiar name in the top 25 polls as FSU finished the 2002 season with a fourth place ranking and reached as high as 9th during the 2003 campaign.
At Northern, her duties include assisting in all areas of player development, scouting, player academic progress, camp/clinic coordinator, team travel, equipment/inventory and prospective player recruitment.
