CHICAGO - The Northern Illinois University softball team's road woes continued as NIU fell to No. 22 DePaul, 10-2, Thursday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium.
The game started out promising enough for the Huskies (11-23). Kayla Kramer (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago) led off the inning with her second home run of the season, taking DePaul starter Becca Heteniak deep over the center field fence to give NIU a 1-0 lead.
"Kayla did a good job coming up swinging the bat with a leadoff home run," NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said." That's what we've asking been asking her to do as a leadoff hitter, be aggressive at the plate."
However, the lead would be short-lived. No. 22 DePaul (22-9) answered with five runs in their first at bat and another five in the second inning. NIU scored its final run of the game in the top of the fourth when Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) scored from third on a wild pitch to make the score 10-2.
Kramer provided the only offense for the Huskies, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and home run, the lone Huskie hit on the day.
The Huskies return to Mid-American Conference play Saturday when NIU opens a weekend set with Western Michigan at Mary M. Bell Field. First pitch Saturday is slated for 2 p.m. Fans can follow all the action live online via GameTracker and will be broadcast on Internet radio with Bill Baker on the call only through Huskie All-Access on www.niuhuskies.com.
