Midland, MI - In Game 10 of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, Northern Illinois University's softball team couldn't handle Nikki Denman. The Eastern Michigan University designated player hit two three-run homers to end the Huskies' season in an 8-5 game.

In the bottom of the second with one out, second baseman Bailey Ouellette (Beaverton, OR/Beaverton) lined a hit to leftfield and third baseman Michelle Nendza (Palos Park, IL/Lemont Mt. Assisi) put down a bunt single. With the table set for Randi Kreiter (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield), the All-MAC Freshman Team honoree blasted a three-run longball over the rightfield fence to give the Huskies the three-run lead.

The Huskies kept the scoring going into the third as Ellen Stoddard (Rolling Meadows, IL/Palatine Fremd) put a one-out single into leftfield. Centerfielder Kelly Park (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) drew a walk just before Ouellette earned her second base hit of the day to leftfield to score Stoddard and put the Huskies up, 4-0.

After a 40-minute rain delay between the third and fourth innings, Eastern Michigan made a comeback with its own three-dinger. After a Huskie error and a walk, Denman hit a three-run shot to left to make it a 4-3 tally. Only an inning later, Denman recorded her second three-run shot of the day to take the 6-4 lead.

The Huskies made a comeback again in the sixth inning as Ouellette led off with a walk and ended up on second base after an Eagle error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Nendza. A bunt single by Krista McPherson (Beecher, IL/Beecher) loaded the bases and then a walk by Kelly Drozd (Lockport, IL/Lockport) allowed the fifth NIU run to score.

In the top of the seventh, the Eagles tacked on two more runs after a lead off double by MAC Player of the Year Lauren Clark. A Denman walk followed by a Huskie error on an attempted double steal put the EMU runners on second and third. A single by rightfielder Lindsay Schmid scored two more runs for the Eagles and the game ended in the 8-5 tally.

Lindsey LaChiana (Oak Lawn, IL/Richards) suffered the loss in her final game in a Huskie uniform. The senior gave up eight runs, four of them being earned, on eight hits. The Huskies finish the season 23-28.
