DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University softball team looks to build off Sunday's 13-hit, 5-1 victory over Bowling Green when NIU wraps up its current six-game road swing with a doubleheader at Wisconsin Tuesday.
First pitch for Game One is set for 3 p.m., with the second game to immediately follow. Fans can follow all the action live via Gametracker at NIUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (18-24) are 2-2 on the trip, splitting a doubleheader with Toledo on Friday and the weekend set with the Falcons. After accounting for 14 hits in the first three games of the weekend, NIU's bats came alive with 13 base hits in the weekend finale against BGSU. Jennifer Barnett (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) led the way for the Huskies in Sunday's victory. Barnett went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Colosimo also finished with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and a run scored.
Barnett had an outstanding week offensively for NIU last week, batting .444 while going 8-for-18 with six RBIs and two runs scored in five games. The Huskie first baseman also belted her first career home run against Toledo on Friday.
Sophomore Morgan Bittner (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) was solid from the pitcher's circle, posting a 3-1 record in four appearances. She had a solid 1.67 earned run average, allowing nine runs, five earned, in 21 innings pitched.
Wisconsin (11-25) owns a 1-5 record against the Huskies and won last year's meeting in Madison 2-0. The Badgers, who are in the midst of a 12-game, 14-day homestand, enter play losers of three of their last five, splitting a weekend series with Purdue.
