DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University softball team returns home from a 4-1 road trip to open a five-game homestand against in-state foe Western Illinois Tuesday.

The Huskies come into Tuesday's action off their first weekend conference sweep since Mar. 27-29, 2009 when NIU swept Akron and Ohio. NIU's doubleheader sweep of Kent State Friday was its first since sweeping Akron April 17, 2011. Ashley Kopp (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South) continues to show some power at the plate hitting her team-leading and career-high seventh home run of the season in the second game of a doubleheader at Kent State.
Pitcher Emily Norton (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) parlayed her 4-0 weekend into Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors. Norton posted a perfect 4-0 record in four appearances in MAC play this past weekend leading NIU to back-to-back doubleheader victories over Kent State and Buffalo. She pitched 23.2 innings, allowing six runs, two earned on 13 hits while striking out 17 and posting a 0.59 earned run average.
Following its Tuesday game with WIU, the Huskies welcome Akron and Ohio to Mary M. Bell Field for Alumni Weekend.
