DEKALB, Ill. - Freshman Morgan Bittner (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) was named MAC West Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight week, after posting a 4-2 record in her six starts last week for the Northern Illinois University softball team. It's the third time this season Bittner has collected MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors.
Bittner posted a 1.75 ERA, well below her 4.22 ERA on the season, in her six starts last week. Her four wins accounted for a third of her win total on the season. In 36 innings, Bittner allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 11 walks, 22 hits while striking out 29. With the bases loaded and nobody out in game two against Kent State, she struck out three straight, ending the threat. She struck out 10 Golden Flashes en route to scoring her third shutout on the season.
The Huskies, who earned the No. 5 seed in the 2009 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament, will open the tourney Wednesday, May 6 against No. 4 Miami University at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. CST.
