2:15 p.m.

The Huskies win 4-3 with a three-run seventh to eliminating Kent State. The Huskies will face Miami at 4:45 p.m. CST later today

2:12 p.m.

The sun is starting to peak out. The Huskies have a runner on second with no outs. Could be an omen.

1:48 p.m.

The Huskies' defense flashed some more leather when Andrea Colosimo fielding a ball hit by Leah Archual and dove head first, tagging the bag with her mit to get Archual. Leather larceny at its best.

1:37 p.m.

Carly Norton just make an incredible catch, falling into the dugout just as she made the grab. Unfortunately, that was just after Chelsey Jones hit a base clearing triple. Kent leads 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

1:18 p.m.

Jenna Roberts who reached on a well-placed bunt, just swiped her 26th base of the season, tying Angela Porcelli who set the mark in 1995. Congratulations Jenna!

1:15 p.m.

There is definitely a different feel from the last two days. No kick ball games to watch. Every team here has a chance to win the MAC Championship.

12:53 Inside the numbers: The Huskies are 14-4 when scoring first.

12:39 p.m.

We're underway here at the MAC Tournament. It's another overcast day here in Akron. It sprinkled a little bit during the Akron-Ohio game, but didn't last long. There is a chance of showers later this afternoon.

Another update from Akron, NIU-Kent State will be starting at 12:30 p.m.

Just wanted to give everyone an update from the MAC Tournament. NIU's game with Kent State will not be starting at 12 p.m. Akron and Ohio are in extra innings with the Zips leading 2-1 with two out in the bottom of the eighth.

Game 2

4:12 p.m.

It's a final, the Huskies win, 9-4. NIU will face the loser of W. Michigan and Kent State tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST.

NIU's hit tally is not up to 14.

3:50 p.m.

The Huskies have pounded out a season-high 13 hits today.

3:45 p.m.

I'm just sitting here in the press box and all of the sudden I hear "Hey Joe!" I look and there's Robert Collins waving at me with a big smile on his face. A four-run sixth will make any Huskie fan grin. NIU leads 9-3 in the top of the sxith.

After a bit of a rough start, Morgan Bittner has settled in nicely and hasn't allowed a run in two innings.

3:31 p.m.

Now it's sprinkling a bit. How's that for instant updates from the MAC Softball Tournament!?

3:30 p.m.

Just took a look at the radar and it looks like rain is on the way. Hopefully it's a passing shower and the rest of the games aren't interrupted.

3:10 p.m.

The Huskies have been very aggressive on the base paths swiping three bases already.

2:50 p.m.

The Miami University softball team is sitting just past the portable fence in right field. Ball State has chosen a more traditional locale to watch the game, sitting in the bleachers just to the right of right field. Both teams appear anxious, but well behaved. They play after the Huskies and Falcons.

2:40 p.m.

Got to give props to Deputy Athletics Director Robert Collins. Last night at dinner we were discussing the unannounced All-MAC Team. As the media relations director I was privy to all the award winners well in advance. However, I am sworn to secrecy until the conference office allows me to release it. Let me tell you all something knowledge is power! I enjoyed knowing something he didn't.

Mr. Collins did his best to get the information out of me, but I wouldn't give. So he wrote down who he thought were going to be on the team and gave me the piece of paper this morning. Wouldn't you know it, when the team was revealled he got all three correct. However, he did have another listed that he thought could have made the team but didn't. You've got to give him credit, he knows his team.

2:20 p.m.

Carly Norton just hit her team-leading sixth home run over the left field fence.

Top of the second

Those blue skies that were here an hour ago have just given way to mostly cloudy skies.

2:11 p.m.

We're underway here at the 2009 MAC Softball Tournament. Zoe Sinner leads things off for the Huskies.

This is Joe Summins live from the 2009 MAC Softball Tournament. Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. The game between Western Michigan and Ohio is running a bit long and it doesn't look like the Huskies and Bowling Green will be starting a 1 p.m. as originally scheduled. The Broncos lead the Bobcats 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The awards ceremony recognizing the All-MAC honorees will begin 15 minutes after the WMU-OU contest. The estimated start time for the Huskies and Falcons is 2 p.m. CST. Check back then for any further updates. Just an FYI, Kent State beat Akron 3-1 in the first game of the day.

On a side note, the weather is much improved, with the clouds and rain of yesterday being replaced with bright sunny skies,. However, there is a storm system moving our way. Keep your fingers crossed.

Game 1 NIU vs. Miami (OH)

The line-up cards are in for the Huskies game with Miami. Leading off for the Huskies and playing right field is Zoe Sinner. Center fielder Jenna Roberts is batting second and designated player Andrea Colosimo is batting third. Catcher Michelle Williams is batting clean up, while Carly Norton is in the five spot and is playing third base. Batting sixth and playing left field is Katie Colby, while Bailey Ouellette is hitting seventh and playing first base. Krista Matsui is playing short stop and batting eighth, with Dani Thompson bats ninth and is playing second base. MAC West Pitcher of the Week Morgan Bittner is in the pitcher's circle for the Huskies. She is 12-18 with a 4.22 ERA.

First pitch is about 10 minutes away...

1st Inning

Zoe Sinner was plunked in the left leg leading off the inning. To add insult to injury, she got hit in the ribs on a pick-off attempt by the catcher. The RedHawk catcher was more accurate on her second pick-off attempt, throwing out Sinner. Jenna Roberts reached coaxed a one out walk. Andrea Colosimo just got hit as well. Miami (OH) pitcher Jessica Simpson, no not that one, seems a little wild early. Michelle Williams gives NIU the early lead with a single to center field giving the Huskies its first hit of the day. Carly Norton fouled out and Katie Colby grounded out to the first baseman, ending the inning for the Huskies. So that was one run on one hit and two hit batters.

Bittner pitched out of trouble with the help of her defense in Miami's (OH) half of the first. Jordan McElroy led off with a double to left center. The second batter flied out to left and Sarah Billstrom reached on a fielder's choice as Norton tried to throw out McElroy at second. McElroy was erased at the third on the next play. With runners at first and second with two out Bittner got Hogl to ground out to third base.

Second Inning

The Huskies went 1-2-3 in the top of the second.

Miami took the lead in the bottom of the second. Lauren Odom led off the inning with a single to left field. Bittner then recorded her strike out of the game getting Kat Russette looking. Odom steals second to move herself into scoring position. Kelly Cabana reached on a hit. It was a very weird play. The ball was hit right at Bittner but it was hit so softly that she had a hard time reacting to it. Alexis Javier doubled to left center driving in Odom and Cabana. McElroy then grounded out and Megan Mawn grounded out to Ouellette.

Third Inning Sinner led off the inning with a single to left field and Roberts sacrificed her over to second on a bunt. Sinner advanced to third on a ground out by Colosimo. The Huskies are doing a good job of moving runners into scoring position. However, Williams struck out.

Off beyond the right field fence there's another game going on. The Bowling Green softball team is engaged in a spirited game of kick ball, while Ball State is just relaxing in the right field stands taking in the game.

Bittner's showing a little wildness in the third. She's given up two walks and hit a batter, but got out of a two on, two out jam keeping the RedHawks off the scoreboard. The defense has played very well for the Huskies.

Bowling Green's kick ball game is over and the Falcons are now taking BP. I'll try and find out a score for all you Falcon fans.

Fourth Inning

The Huskies went down in order in their half of the fourth inning.

Bittner records her first 1-2-3 inning.

Fifth Inning Colosimo just got hit by a pitch. That makes three hit batters for the Huskies. One more and they will have as many hit batters as hits.

Miami's lead off hitter just got plunked. That puts the total of hit batters at five. NIU 3 - MU 2.

The Huskies just turned in a terrific double play with Dani Thompson tagging out the runner trying to advance to second then nailing the batter at first base. Nothing across for the RedHawks.

Sixth Inning

Both teams were unable to scratch any runs across. Bittner got out of a two-out bases loaded jam with a strike out.

Seventh Inning

The Huskies are unable to scratch across a run and fall 2-1.
