Gremillion Named to Academic All-MAC Team

DEKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University's Nicole Gremillion (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins) was named to the 2012 Academic All-MAC Team the league announced this week. Gremillion led the league in hits with 70 and led the Huskie offense in seven other categories including batting average (.395), runs scored (47), doubles (9) and triples (4). She started 51 of 51 games, making 36 starts in the outfield. The sophomore's .395 average was second best in the league, while her four triples tied for first in the MAC. The Huskies' leadoff hitter, Gremillion stole 15 bases on the season to rank seventh in the league and her 47 runs scored ranked fourth in the conference. In conference games, she batted .408 with 31 hits, including three double, four triples and a home run. Gremillion, a pre-communications major, excels in the classroom achieving Huskie Scholar status (3.0-3.49 G.P.A.) within NIU's Academic Excellence program. The 2012 Academic All-MAC team, which is selected by faculty athletic representatives of MAC institutions, consists of 19 players. To qualify for the squad, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in 50 percent of the games. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible. -NIU-
