DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University softball team will compete in a handful of events during the fall semester NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard announced today.

The Huskies, who are looking to build on a 2009 season that saw them post a 12-10 conference record, their first winning season in the Mid-American Conference since 2003, will open their fall slate in Joliet, Ill. where they will compete in the Collegiate Fall Fling. Northern Illinois will take on Eastern Illinois at 9 a.m. and face off against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville later that afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

NIU travels to Normal, Ill. the first weekend in October to compete in the State of Illinois Tournament Oct. 3-4. Northern Illinois will open with Illinois at 12 p.m. and will take on the Redbirds of Illinois State at 2:30 p.m., with Bracket Play taking place on Sunday. The Huskies close out the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 9 at Loyola-Chicago. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
