Volunteer Assistant Coach

Brian Brooks joined the Huskie women's tennis team with a highly impressive résumé in 2013. Brooks was part of the West Aurora High School (Aurora, Ill.) tennis program for 33 years as he was head coach of the men's team for over 20 years (1974-96) and chief of the women's team since 1997 before retiring this year. Now a volunteer assistant with NIU, he held a career record of 413-134-3 and collected 16 conference titles, 24 sectional titles, one state championship (1996-1997) and two State of Illinois Tennis Coach of the Year Awards (1997,2006) during his tenure with the Blackhawks.

Brooks also holds a number of positions within the tennis community. He currently is the Head Tennis Professional at the Aurora Country Club as well as being the tennis instructor for the Fox Valley Park District for the past 32 years.

In addition, brooks was a physical education teacher at West Aurora. He won the Golden Apple Award for Teaching (2010) and the West Suburban Teaching Award for physical education (2009). Additionally, he has three daughters who all played Division I tennis: Megan (NIU), Courtney (Western Illinois), and Shannon (Eastern Illinois).

Brooks graduated with his bachelor's degree in physical education from Western Illinois University before he earned his master's in physical education from NIU.
