Sophomore Mary Malkin Earns Singles Victory

2013-14 SEASON: Saw play at No. 3, 4 and 5 throughout the spring, going 6-13 in those affairs ... Was solid at No. 4, producing a 4-3 record in such affairs ... In doubles, finished 1-1, getting one match with Ilse Pacheco and another with Stephanie McDonald ... Did not play during the fall.

Spring 2013: Finished with a 16-8 singles record ... Had second best winning percentage singles winning percentage on the team at .667 ... Went 10-13 in doubles, playing with Haley Dekkinga, Stephanie McDonald, Nelle Youel, and Ilse Pacheco ... Went 15-2 in her first 17 matches (Jan. 25 to Mar. 13).

Fall 2012: Continued to improve on her 2011-12 season, posting a 5-3 singles record in the fall ... Opened the 2012 season with consecutive victories over Nebraska - Omaha (6-3, 6-1) and Wichita State (7-5, 6-2) ... Also won three consecutive matches over Valparaiso (6-4, 6-3), Detroit - Mercy (7-6, 6-3), and Wisconsin (6-4, 6-1) ... In doubles, Malkin opened the year playing with Ilse Pacheco, posting a 2-4 record ... Malkin finished the season playing with Stephanie McDonald, earning two victories in two matches ... At ITA Regionals in Rockford, Ill., she placed second in her singles draw and won her doubles draw with McDonald.

2011-12: Went 0-4 in singles play and 0-3 in doubles during her inaugural season as a Huskie ... During spring season she bounced back from the fall and was able to compile a .500 record of 11-11 in singles play, splitting time between the No. 4 & No. 5 spots ... Starting off on a blistering pace she won her first six matches against Drake (2-6, 6-1,6-4), South Dakota (6-2,6-2), SIUE (6-1,6-1), Northern Iowa (6-4, 6-1), North Dakota (6-0,6-0), Bradley (6-1, 6-4), and Eastern Illinois (6-0,6-4) ... Also went undefeated (2-0) during doubles play, leaving her with 13 total wins for the spring season.

Prior to NIU/High School: Ranked No. 3 in the junior level of competition for Israel...Participated in over 10 international competitions at both the junior and women's levels...Earned the rank of No. 7 at the women's competition level...Team captain for the Jerusalem Tennis Academy Club.
