NIU's Nelle Youel Continues Winning Ways

Spring 2013: Turned in a 13-10 record, playing most of NIU's No. 6 singles matches ... Went 11-13 in doubles, playing with Haley Dekkinga, Mary Malkin, Cristina Alvarez, and Ilse Pacheco ... Won 10 of 12 singles matches to begin the season (Jan. 25 to Mar. 3).

Fall 2012: In her first fall season, compiled a 2-5 singles record ... Opened the doubles season with partner Maria Rozo, winning three of five matches with victories over South Dakota (8-4), Valparaiso (8-3), and Lewis (8-5) ... Ended the doubles season playing with Mary Malkin, winning both of their matches against Michigan State (8-6) and Chicago State (9-7) ... At ITA Regionals in Rockford, Ill., won her doubles draw with teammate Mary Malkin and placed fourth in her singles draw.

2011-2012: Did not play during the fall season ... During the spring, earned a 5-8 mark, all in the No. 6 spot ... Had back-to-back wins against Valparaiso and Western Michigan, allowing only a single point ... During doubles play teamed up with Haley Dekkinga to go 11-9, winning seven of their first eight matches ... Finished the 2012 campaign with a total of 16 victories.

Prior to NIU/High School: Ranked No. 1 in KwaZulu-Natal at the U-15 and U-19 levels... Four-time conference champion...Helped St. Anne's win Invitational Doubles Festival all four years...Team also won the Independent Schools Tennis Festival in three of her four seasons...Went unbeaten in singles as a senior at the No. 1 position...Named First Team All-Conference all four years...Won the Open School Championship in doubles play her final two years...As a sophomore, went unbeaten at the No. 3 position...Honored as the team captain in her senior campaign...Finished her freshman season unbeaten at the No. 6 position...Given First Team All-Conference honors as a member of the field hockey team her junior and senior seasons...Went unbeaten in field hockey her senior year and helped the team to conference, regional, and provincial tournament championships...Also played squash and basketball ...
